So… I made it to the Quarter-Finals of Hotvox’s New Blood Competition to win a place at the Isle of Wight festival. And the results were…. I didn’t make it but I made it to the live round out of thousands of applicants so I count that as a win! I still had a wonderful night though, and there is always next year! This was my first gig playing with a new set up with my guitar player Dennis, whom I went to school with, and my piano player Olivia.
The evening was great, I played first so got my nerves out of the way pretty quickly, but after I had finished playing I remembered it was a competition and not a normal gig, and the nerves came back again. Played most of my classic songs and added a new cover in called Jericho. I had lots of support there and if you couldn’t make it, I hope to see you at a gig very soon 😉 Thanks to Dennis and Olivia for putting up with my nerves beforehand and for playing so great!
The gig was also a bit emotional for me, as I walked into the venue, I got a notification on my phone which told me that Caroline Flack, the former host of Love Island had died. Now I know this may seem a bit irrelevant but as someone who has struggled with my mental health in the past I felt conflicted and if I’m being honest, a bit sad. I want to echo the words that have been going round social media sites recently: Be Kind. There is so much negativity out there and I feel that I on stage and off, try my best to be a positive person and although I don’t always get it right, I want to be a person that I can be proud of and try not to care about what other people think of me. It’s one of the hardest things for me as I care way to much about other opinions when the only one that should matter is my own. My music is an outlet for me and I’m working on new music right now that I really hope you will enjoy and my album which I’ve been working on for which feels like forever will be coming out really soon!
